“Gave an intensive outlook of overall network security, the tools needed for more secure networks and how to perform an audit of them.” -William Rich, Auditor, Anderson French
Data processing today relies almost entirely on networked computers, be they small LANs, enterprisewide WANs or the ultimate wide area network, the Internet. Because it is necessary to audit all of the functions and components of the network architecture, from workstations to servers and all the pathways, connections, and devices in between, auditing networked computers has become very complex.
This three-day seminar is designed as a first look at LANs, WANs, workstations, and servers. You will focus on understanding the technology, evaluating the risks, and establishing an audit approach. You will compare the leading network operating systems’ control and audit features, and learn how the administrative and security features can be used to help you audit the system. At the conclusion of this seminar, you will have the know-how to assess risk and perform a high-level review of your network. You will understand the differences between servers and workstations, the role of the network operating system, and many of the controls and technologies available to the auditor. You will be technically prepared to pursue additional audit training on vendor-specific products.
Prerequisite: IT Auditing and Controls, or equivalent experience.
