Focus and Features

Increased state and federal regulations, shareholder expectations for returns and dividends, and the rising concern over infrastructure security and potential for terrorist attacks have put internal auditors of electric and gas utilities under growing pressure to effectively and efficiently identify key risks and verify that mitigation techniques are in place and functioning as designed.

In this intensive three-day seminar you will gain an understanding of the underlying theory and associated risks for the critical areas you must cover when evaluating a risk profile for your organization. You will cover the key changes taking place in the utility industry and how they impact you as an internal auditor. You will explore the external and internal factors that impact over 50 unique utility risks, determine which risks might apply to your organization, and learn how to address these risks. You will determine how utilities differ from other businesses in the areas of accounting, regulation, rates, legislation, and derivative trading, as well as risks unique to generation, transmission, distribution, and support services. You will then focus on IA’s role in addressing these risks in the internal audit planning processes. You will leave this targeted seminar armed with a solid understanding of the key risks facing the utility business today and with tools, contacts, and reference materials you can put to use as soon as you return to your office.
